OutOfMemoryError for large multipart without filename in Eclipse Jetty
CVE-2023-26048GHSA-qw69-rqj8-6qw8
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server 11.0.14, 10.0.14, 9.4.51.v20230217), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact Servlets with multipart support (e.g. annotated with @MultipartConfig) that call HttpServletRequest.getParameter() or HttpServletRequest.getParts() may cause OutOfMemoryError when the client sends a multipart request with a part that has a name but no filename and a very large content. This happens even with the default settings of fileSizeThreshold=0 which should stream the whole part content to disk. An attacker client may send a large multipart request and cause the server to throw OutOfMemoryError. However, the server may be able to recover after the OutOfMemoryError and continue its service -- although it may take some time. A very large number of parts may cause the same problem. Patches Patched in Jetty versions 9.4.51.v20230217 - via PR #9345 10.0.14 - via PR #9344 11.0.14 - via PR #9344 Workarounds Multipart parameter maxRequestSize must be set to a non-negative value, so the whole multipart content is limited (although still read into memory). # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2023-26048 Advisory: OutOfMemoryError for large multipart without filename in Eclipse Jetty IDs: CVE-2023-26048, GHSA-qw69-rqj8-6qw8 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2023-26048 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:16 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server 11.0.14, 10.0.14, 9.4.51.v20230217. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server: affected >= 10.0.0, < 10.0.14; >= 11.0.0, < 11.0.14; < 9.4.51.v20230217; fixed in 11.0.14, 9.4.51.v20230217, 10.0.14 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-qw69-rqj8-6qw8 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-qw69-rqj8-6qw8 lists affected ranges: Maven org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server >=10.0.0 =11.0.0 =0 <9.4.51.v20230217) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
