Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Apache Jena SDB 3.17.0 and earlier is vulnerable to a JDBC Deserialisation attack if the attacker is able to control the JDBC URL used or cause the underlying database server to return malicious data. The mySQL JDBC driver in particular is known to be vulnerable to this class of attack. As a result an application using Apache Jena SDB can be subject to RCE when connected to a malicious database server. Apache Jena SDB has been EOL since December 2020 and users should migrate to alternative options e.g. Apache Jena TDB 2.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2022-45136 Advisory: Apache Jena vulnerable to Deserialization of Untrusted Data IDs: CVE-2022-45136, GHSA-g2qw-6vrr-v6pq Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2022-45136 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:30 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.apache.jena:jena-sdb: affected <= 3.17.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.apache.jena:jena-sdb: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.apache.jena:jena-sdb. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-g2qw-6vrr-v6pq (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-g2qw-6vrr-v6pq lists affected ranges: Maven org.apache.jena:jena-sdb >=0 <=3.17.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
