What to do

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact We discovered that when the reset a forgotten password feature of XWiki was used, the password was then stored in plain text in database. This only concerns XWiki 13.1RC1 and next versions. Note that it only concerns the reset password feature available from the "Forgot your password" link in the login view: the features allowing a user to change their password, or for an admin to change a user password are not impacted. This vulnerability is particularly dangerous in combination with other vulnerabilities allowing to perform data leak of personal data from users, such as https://github.com/xwiki/xwiki-platform/security/advisories/GHSA-599v-w48h-rjrm. Note that this vulnerability only concerns the users of the main wiki: in case of farms, the users registered on subwiki are not impacted thanks to a bug we discovered when investigating this. Patches The problem has been patched in version 14.6RC1, 14.4.3 and 13.10.8. The patch involves a migration of the impacted users as well…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2022-41933 Advisory: Plaintext storage of password after a reset in org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-security-authentication-default IDs: CVE-2022-41933, GHSA-q2hm-2h45-v5g3 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2022-41933 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:11 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.2) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-security-authentication-default 14.4.3, 13.10.8. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-security-authentication-default: affected >= 13.1RC1, < 13.10.8; >= 14.0.0, < 14.4.3; fixed in 13.10.8, 14.4.3 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-security-authentication-default: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-security-authentication-default. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-q2hm-2h45-v5g3 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-q2hm-2h45-v5g3 lists affected ranges: Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-security-authentication-default >=13.1RC1 =14.0.0 <14.4.3) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
