Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Impact The tags document Main.Tags in XWiki didn't sanitize user inputs properly, allowing users with view rights on the document (default in a public wiki or for authenticated users on private wikis) to execute arbitrary Groovy, Python and Velocity code with programming rights. This allows bypassing all rights checks and thus both modification and disclosure of all content stored in the XWiki installation. Also, this could be used to impact the availability of the wiki. Some versions of XWiki XML-escaped the tag (e.g., version 3.1) but this isn't a serious limitation as string literals can be delimited by / in Groovy and < and aren't necessary, e.g., to elevate privileges of the current user. On XWiki versions before 13.10.4 and 14.2, this can be combined with the authentication bypass using the login action, meaning that no rights are required to perform the attack. # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2022-36100

Advisory: XWiki Platform Applications Tag and XWiki Platform Tag UI vulnerable to Eval Injection
IDs: CVE-2022-36100, GHSA-2g5c-228j-p52x
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2022-36100 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:11 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.9)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Partial vendor fix; fixed versions by package: org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-tag-ui 14.4, 13.10.6. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-tag-ui: affected < 13.10.6; >= 14.0, < 14.4; fixed in 13.10.6, 14.4
- Maven org.xwiki.platform.applications:xwiki-application-tag: affected >= 1.7

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-tag-ui: check the installed version with your package manager.
- Maven org.xwiki.platform.applications:xwiki-application-tag: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-tag-ui, org.xwiki.platform.applications:xwiki-application-tag.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
