Argo CD's external URLs for Deployments can include JavaScript
CVE-2022-31035GHSA-h4w9-6x78-8vrj
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/argoproj/argo-cd/v2 2.4.1, 2.3.5, 2.2.10, 2.1.16; github.com/argoproj/argo-cd 2.1.16), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact All unpatched versions of Argo CD starting with v1.0.0 are vulnerable to a cross-site scripting (XSS) bug allowing a malicious user to inject a javascript: link in the UI. When clicked by a victim user, the script will execute with the victim's permissions (up to and including admin). The script would be capable of doing anything which is possible in the UI or via the API, such as creating, modifying, and deleting Kubernetes resources. Patches A patch for this vulnerability has been released in the following Argo CD versions: v2.4.1 v2.3.5 v2.2.10 v2.1.16 Workarounds There are no completely-safe workarounds besides upgrading. Mitigations: 1. Avoid clicking external links presented in the UI. Here is an example of an Application node with an external link: The link's title is user-configurable. So even if you hover the link, and the tooltip looks safe, the link might be malicious. The only way to be certain that the link is safe is to inspect the page's source. 2. Carefully…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2022-31035 Advisory: Argo CD's external URLs for Deployments can include JavaScript IDs: CVE-2022-31035, GHSA-h4w9-6x78-8vrj Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2022-31035 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:04 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.0) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/argoproj/argo-cd/v2 2.4.1, 2.3.5, 2.2.10, 2.1.16; github.com/argoproj/argo-cd 2.1.16. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/argoproj/argo-cd/v2: affected < 2.1.16; >= 2.2.0, < 2.2.10; >= 2.3.0, < 2.3.5; >= 2.4.0, <= 2.4.0; fixed in 2.4.1, 2.2.10, 2.3.5, 2.1.16 - Go github.com/argoproj/argo-cd: affected >= 1.0.0, <= 1.8.7; fixed in 2.1.16 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/argoproj/argo-cd/v2: check the installed version with your package manager. - Go github.com/argoproj/argo-cd: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/argoproj/argo-cd/v2, github.com/argoproj/argo-cd. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-h4w9-6x78-8vrj (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-h4w9-6x78-8vrj lists affected ranges: Go github.com/argoproj/argo-cd >=1.0.0 =0 =2.2.0 =2.3.0 =2.4.0 <=2.4.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
