Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Versions of the package cookiejar before 2.1.4 are vulnerable to Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) via the Cookie.parse function and other aspects of the API, which use an insecure regular expression for parsing cookie values. Applications could be stalled for extended periods of time if untrusted input is passed to cookie values or attempted to parse from request headers. Proof of concept:

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2022-25901 Advisory: cookiejar Regular Expression Denial of Service via Cookie.parse function IDs: CVE-2022-25901, GHSA-h452-7996-h45h Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2022-25901 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 12:36 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Partial vendor fix; fixed versions by package: cookiejar 2.1.4. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.webjars.npm:cookiejar: affected <= 2.1.3 - npm cookiejar: affected < 2.1.4; fixed in 2.1.4 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.webjars.npm:cookiejar: check the installed version with your package manager. - `npm ls cookiejar --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.webjars.npm:cookiejar, cookiejar. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-h452-7996-h45h (OSV record GHSA-h452-7996-h45h lists affected ranges: npm cookiejar >=0 =0 <=2.1.3) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-h452-7996-h45h (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-h452-7996-h45h lists affected ranges: npm cookiejar >=0 =0 <=2.1.3) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
