Cross site scripting in registration template in xwiki-platform
CVE-2022-23622GHSA-gx6h-936c-vrrr
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-web-templates 13.10.3, 13.4.7, 12.10.11), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

Impact We found a possible XSS vector in the registerinline.vm template related to the xredirect hidden field. This template is only used in the following conditions: - the wiki must be open to registration for anyone - the wiki must be closed to view for Guest users (more specifically the XWiki.Registration page must be forbidden in View for guest user) A way to obtain the second condition is when administrators checked the "Prevent unregistered users from viewing pages, regardless of the page rights" box in the administration rights. Patches The issue is patched in versions 12.10.11, 14.0-rc-1, 13.4.7, 13.10.3. Workarounds There are two main ways for protecting against this vulnerability, the easiest and the best one is by applying a patch in the registerinline.vm template, the patch consists in checking the value of the xredirect field to ensure it matches the following: If for some reason it's not possible to patch this file, another workaround is to ensure "Prevent unregistered…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2022-23622 Advisory: Cross site scripting in registration template in xwiki-platform IDs: CVE-2022-23622, GHSA-gx6h-936c-vrrr Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2022-23622 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:10 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.4) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-web-templates 13.10.3, 13.4.7, 12.10.11. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-web-templates: affected >= 2.6.1, < 12.10.11; >= 13.0.0, < 13.4.7; >= 13.10.0, < 13.10.3; fixed in 13.10.3, 13.4.7, 12.10.11 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-web-templates: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-web-templates. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-gx6h-936c-vrrr (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-gx6h-936c-vrrr lists affected ranges: Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-web-templates >=2.6.1 =13.0.0 =13.10.0 <13.10.3) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
