What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-administration-ui 13.1RC1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact It's possible for an unprivileged user to perform a remote code execution by injecting a groovy script in her own profile and by calling the Reset password feature since the feature is performing a save of the user profile with programming rights in the impacted versions of XWiki. Patches The problem has been patched in XWiki 13.1RC1 with a complete refactoring of the Reset password feature. Workarounds There's different possible workarounds, all consisting in modifying the XWiki/ResetPassword page. - the Reset password feature can be entirely disabled by deleting the XWiki/ResetPassword page - the script in XWiki/ResetPassword can also be modified or removed: an administrator can replace it with a simple email contact to ask an administrator to reset the password. # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2022-23616 Advisory: Remote code execution in xwiki-platform IDs: CVE-2022-23616, GHSA-mgjw-2wrp-r535 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2022-23616 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:01 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.8) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-administration-ui 13.1RC1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-administration-ui: affected >= 3.1-milestone-1, <= 13.0; fixed in 13.1RC1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-administration-ui: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-administration-ui. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-mgjw-2wrp-r535 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-mgjw-2wrp-r535 lists affected ranges: Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-administration-ui >=3.1-milestone-1 <=13.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
