URL Redirection to Untrusted Site ('Open Redirect') in Products.isurlinportal

CVE-2021-32806GHSA-q3m9-9fj2-mfwr

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (products-isurlinportal 1.2.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Impact Various parts of Plone use the 'is url in portal' check for security, mostly to see if it is safe to redirect to a url. A url like https://example.org is not in the portal. But the url https:example.org without slashes tricks our code and it is considered to be in the portal. When redirecting, some browsers go to https://example.org, others give an error. Attackers may use this to redirect you to their site, especially as part of a phishing attack. Patches The problem has been patched in Products.isurlinportal 1.2.0. This is a recommended upgrade for all users of Plone 4.3 and 5, on Python 2.7 or higher. It has not been tested on earlier Plone or Python versions. Upcoming Plone 5.2.5 and higher will include the new version. Discovered This vulnerability was discovered and reported by Yuji Tounai of Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions, Inc. Thank you! IDs: CVE-2021-32806, GHSA-q3m9-9fj2-mfwr
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2021-32806 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:22 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: High (CVSS 7.1)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: products-isurlinportal 1.2.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- PyPI products-isurlinportal: affected < 1.2.0; fixed in 1.2.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- `python -m pip show products-isurlinportal`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on products-isurlinportal.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
