Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
An issue was discovered in the cache crate through 2020-11-24 for Rust. Affected versions of this crate unconditionally implement Send/Sync for Cache<K. This allows users to insert K that is not Send or not Sync. This allows users to create data races by using non-Send types like Arc<Cell<T or Rc<T as K in Cache<K. It is also possible to create data races by using types like Cell<T or RefCell<T (types that are Send but not Sync). Such data races can lead to memory corruption.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2020-36448 Advisory: Data races in cache IDs: CVE-2020-36448, GHSA-g78p-g85h-q6ww Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2020-36448 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:33 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - crates.io cache: affected <= 0.2.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - crates.io cache: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on cache. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-g78p-g85h-q6ww (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-g78p-g85h-q6ww lists affected ranges: crates.io cache >=0 <=0.2.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
