CVE-2020-36193GHSA-rpw6-9xfx-jvcx

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (pear/archive_tar 1.4.13), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Tar.php in ArchiveTar through 1.4.11 allows write operations with Directory Traversal due to inadequate checking of symbolic links, a related issue to CVE-2020-28948. :exclamation: Note: There was an initial fix for this vulnerability made in version 1.4.12. That fix introduced a bug which was fixed in 1.4.13. Therefore we have set the first-patched-version to 1.4.13 which the earliest working version that avoids this vulnerability.

## Affected components
- Packagist pear/archive_tar: affected <= 1.4.11; fixed in 1.4.13

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Packagist pear/archive_tar: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on pear/archive_tar.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
