Async-h1 request smuggling possible with long unread bodies
CVE-2020-26281GHSA-4vr9-8cjf-vf9c
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (async-h1 2.3.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact This vulnerability affects any webserver that uses async-h1 behind a reverse proxy, including all such Tide applications. If the server does not read the body of a request which is longer than some buffer length, async-h1 will attempt to read a subsequent request from the body content starting at that offset into the body. One way to exploit this vulnerability would be for an adversary to craft a request such that the body contains a request that would not be noticed by a reverse proxy, allowing it to forge forwarded/x-forwarded headers. If an application trusted the authenticity of these headers, it could be misled by the smuggled request. Another potential concern with this vulnerability is that if a reverse proxy is sending multiple http clients' requests along the same keep-alive connection, it would be possible for the smuggled request to specify a long content and capture another user's request in its body. This content could be captured in a post request to an endpoint…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2020-26281 Advisory: Async-h1 request smuggling possible with long unread bodies IDs: CVE-2020-26281, GHSA-4vr9-8cjf-vf9c Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2020-26281 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:33 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.8) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: async-h1 2.3.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - crates.io async-h1: affected < 2.3.0; fixed in 2.3.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - crates.io async-h1: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on async-h1. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-4vr9-8cjf-vf9c (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-4vr9-8cjf-vf9c lists affected ranges: crates.io async-h1 >=0 <2.3.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
